Follow Stop Violent Rhetoric on Twitter Recommend Stop Violent Rhetoric It is time to put an end to needless allusions to violence in our media narratives, in our rhetoric, and in our political interactions. People are actually dead now - too many. It's time to put it away and stop. This blog is an extended video, image, sound bite, and written essay compiling all of the examples of violent rhetoric. It's time to put a stop to it. Please contribute to the ending of this terrifying phenomenon in American culture.

Quote reblogged from Corrupt Politics with 8 notes

Tuesday night at a town hall meeting in Oglethorpe County, Georgia an elderly man asked the abhorrent question, “Who’s going to shoot Obama?” I was stunned by the question and chose not to dignify it with a response; therefore, at that moment I moved on to the next person with a question. After the event, my office took action with the appropriate authorities. I deeply regret that this incident happened at all. Furthermore, I condemn all statements—made in sincerity or jest—that threaten or suggest the use of violence against the President of the United States or any other public official. Such rhetoric cannot and will not be tolerated.

Rep. Paul Broun

“Two witnesses tell Talking Points Memo that Broun laughed after the question was asked. The Banner-Herald reported that the question got “a big laugh” at the event.” - source

Question

louisagirlsname said: Can I ask where you found the original image from http://stopviolentrhetoric.tumblr.com/post/3243334347

I have a few issues with it, which I've addressed here http://louisagirlsname.tumblr.com/post/3244171312/stfuconservatives-pro-life-i-so-so-so-so

And I would like to be able to share those issues with the original author of that image, because you obviously can't be held responsible for a geography error that even Canadians make (I've even heard people from BC make that mistake) and my main issue was not the geography error, but with the handful of missing events on that map . This is in no way meant to be an attack on your or your blog so I really hope you don't take it as such, because I agree with and support what you are doing.

I looked for the picture again, and I found it on Google images via this link, yet when you click the link it says the gallery can’t be found. I have no idea how that works, but you might try contacting the Daily Me anyway.

I appreciate you taking the time to point out and correct the graphic. The information you provided is extremely important! Hopefully a more accurate graphic can be made at some point and I can post it here.

After seeing some reblogs of the last photo

I’mma go ahead and just be honest with you all and say that I don’t know anything about Canadian geography. Sorry for anyone that was offended by the inaccuracies of the graphic.

I don’t even know who that is or what the point of this is, but I don’t think this display is necessary.

It’s this kind of violent rhetoric right here! You really gotta tone this down guys. You may inspire someone to come kill me.

Nothing about this is violent. Just thought I’d point that out for the perpetually disingenuous.

While all of that is fucking terrible, I didn’t actually hear anyone say to lynch him. Maybe I missed the use of that actual phrase, but the things describe would be comparable anyway. None of that is ok. That’s fucking shameful.

Also, I’m sorry it took me so long to respond to and post this. I’ve been somewhat busy this weekend (start my internship next week but there’s been a bump in the road) and I’ve been sick. I promise that I will try to be better about it from here on out!
